Randy Crawfor llamò por primera vez la atención en el Reino Unido cuando afrontó el mercado con un single "Street Life" de EE.UU. de jazz-funk del grupo, los cruzados, en 1979.
El single alcanzó el puesto número cinco en las listas de éxitos del Reino Unido y preparó el camino para un puñado de memorables éxitos en solitario.
Crawford de 1980 a 1986, con la conmovedora "One Day I’ll Fly Away", llegò al número dos en 1980.
1981 fue un año aún mejor para la cantante, quien anotó tres entradas de listas del Reino Unido con el tema "You Might Need Somebody", balada atmosférica de Brook Benton, "Rainy Night In Georgia" y la canción romántica de su álbum más vendido Secret Combination.
