Historia del Grupo



TAKE 6 comenzó como un grupo de gospel modesto de una universidad de un estado sureño de los Estados Unidos en 1980.



Claude McKnight formó un cuarteto a cappella en el Oakwood College de Huntsville, Alabama. Mientras ensayaban en el cuarto de baño por su buena acústica. Mark Kibble, que conocía a Claude de la ciudad de Buffalo donde iban juntos a la iglesia, los oyó y añadió su voz al cuarteto.



Antes de llamarse Take 6 se denominaron, primero, como el complejo universitario donde se encontraban los estudiantes que supuestamente venían de otros puntos del país. Más tarde se denominaron "Sound of distiction" (Sonidos de Distinción) y por último se llamaron “Alianza” que poco tiempo después tuvieron que cambiarlo al enterarse que otro grupo tenía el mismo nombre.



El grupo fue cambiando de componentes, según éstos se iban graduando, hasta el año 1985. Después de un concierto privado para Choice Management en 1987, el grupo fue fichado por Warner/Reprise de Nashville y se convirtió oficialmente en Take 6 y sus componentes originales fueron Claude McKnight, Mark Kibble, Mervyn Warren, Alvin Chea, Cedric Dent y David Thomas.



Después de su álbum de debut "Take 6" (1988) y del siguiente "So Much To Say" (1990), Mervyn Warren dejó el grupo para seguir su carrera de productor ("Handel's Messiah: A Soulful Celebration", la banda sonora de la película "Sister Act II", Manhattan Transfer, etc.) Este se estableció en Los Angeles y hoy produce a varios artistas.



Todavía es amigo del grupo (Take 6) y ayudo a este a arreglar un tema en el 4to. disco.

Joey Kibble, el hermano pequeño de Mark, fue el que le sustituyó, pero antes se habían acercado al hermanos de Claude pero este no aceptó ya que había firmado para una compañía discográfica para comenzar su carrera como solista.





INCONVENIENTES EN SUS PRIMEROS AÑOS



Durante el primer disco surgieron problemas ya que habían aparecido diferentes grupos con características muy similares a Take 6 producidos por sellos que el Sexteto había descartado, antes de grabar, por cuestiones morales en las que no estaban de acuerdo.
