En mayo del 2007 Megadeth anuncia la publicación de su undécimo álbum de estudio, United Abominations, que iba a ser lanzado originalmente por Roadrunner Records en octubre del 2006; sin embargo, Mustaine anunció en agosto del 2006 que la banda estaba "poniendo los toques finales al álbum", y su fecha de lanzamiento acabó siendo el 15 de mayo de 2007.[37] United Abominations es el primer álbum de la banda con la formación de los hermanos Glen y Shawn Drover, y James LoMenzo, ex-Black Label Society y White Lion y reemplazo de James MacDonough.
